LEAGUE NOTES

          NASCAR will announce today that a Winston Cup race will
     be held at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway next year (USA
     TODAY, 8/12)....Atlanta Motor Speedway will join the '98 IRL
     schedule with the Atlanta 500 Classic, to be held in August
     (IRL)....In Tokyo, 70% of the 38,000 seats in the Tokyo Dome
     had been sold by Sunday, including all 500 of the $350
     courtside seats, for what is being billed as the first
     offseason, NBA all-star exhibition game ever played outside
     the U.S.  Fourteen NBA players will participate in the games
     Wednesday and Thursday (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 8/12).
