JAGUARS CONTINUE TO FIGHT TOUGH OVER USE OF ITS NAME

The Jaguars "have sent a letter to a 30-member
children's savings club whose name closely resembles a
Jaguars fan club for kids," according to Earl Daniels of the
FLORIDA TIMES-UNION. Health Services Credit Union (HSCU),
which organized the "Cool Cat Club" for children of its
members, "said they were unaware" that the Jaguars official
youth fan club is called the "Cool Cats Club." HSCU
spokesperson Michelle Troha: "We are Jaguars fans ... and we
are surprised they are approaching us like this. ... This is
not something we went out and mass-marketed to the
community." The HSCU's club was designed "to teach children
the value of saving money." Jags attorney Paul Vance: "When
you have a trademark and if people are using it, the owner
of that trademark has an obligation to police it." HSCU
said they will not resist any requests from the team to
change their club's name. Troha: "We don't want any trouble
with the Jaguars" (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 8/9).
