          CBS and Infiniti Broadcasting parent Westinghouse
     reported an "unexpected profit" for the 2Q, with "higher
     advertising and cash flow at its radio stations overcoming a
     loss from its struggling" CBS TV network.  Net income rose
     $1M, or $.00 a share, from a loss of $89M, or $.20 a year
     ago (BLOOMBERG/N.Y. TIMES, 7/29)....Fox has joined with
     other TV networks and 14 ad agencies in supporting the
     development of a rival TV ratings service to A.C. Nielsen. 
     Fox has made an "undisclosed" contribution to Statistical
     Research Inc's "Smart" system, currently undergoing a year-
     long test in the Philadelphia market.  The major broadcast
     networks have so far invested about $40M in the project
     (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 7/29)....In a report picked up by THE
     DAILY, the N.Y. DAILY NEWS' Keith Kelly incorrectly referred
     to John Papanek, a "front-runner" for the top editor's job
     at ESPN magazine, as SI's Managing Editor.  Papanek is the
     former Managing Editor at SI (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 7/29).
