ADIDAS TOUTS AIKMAN, YANKEES AND BRYANT IN NEW CAMPAIGN

This fall, adidas will "escalate efforts to boost the
visibility of its brand," beginning with a $5M TV campaign
centered on Cowboys QB Troy Aikman, according to Jensen &
Cuneo of AD AGE. The company will also launch a TV campaign
in the New York market by September supporting its ten-year,
$91M sponsorship of the Yankees. The spots will focus on
Yankee fans, with the tagline "Only in New York." Later
this year, adidas will break a $5M "plus" national campaign
featuring Lakers G Kobe Bryant. Jensen & Cuneo add that the
Bryant campaign "will benefit" from adidas' new marketing
deal with the NBA and that the national campaigns "mark a
raising of the brand's visibility as it seeks to become a
bigger player in the U.S." The Aikman ad is appearing on
ESPN, MTV and on preseason NFL broadcasts. The ad touts the
Aikman-endorsed "Equipment Roll Out," the newest in adidas'
Feet You Wear product line. Since adidas does not have a
marketing deal with the NFL, it cannot feature Aikman in a
Cowboys uniform (AD AGE, 7/28 issue).
