FT. WORTH POLL HAS RANGERS CATCHING COWBOYS IN POPULARITY

          The MLB Rangers edged the Cowboys 352-348 in the
     favorite sports franchise category of the FT. WORTH STAR-
     TELEGRAM's third annual Sports Canvass survey. The Cowboys
     had won the previous two years of the survey, which is not a
     scientific polling but "simply a measure of fan interest,"
     in which 861 readers responded.  Rangers President Tom
     Schieffer: "It makes you feel good when your effort to
     provide a family atmosphere has been recognized by people."
     Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones: "First of all, I'm a Rangers fan
     and I understand the enthusiasm we've all had for the
     Rangers.  My chief concern is not about polls like that, but
     living up to the expectations that we have."  The Stars were
     third with 61 votes, followed by the CHL Fire (33), the
     Mavericks (26) and MLS Burn (14).  Fans also picked the
     Rangers as the team with the best ownership by a 439-234
     margin over the Cowboys (FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 7/27).
