FRANCHISE NOTES

A Cowboys-Chargers scrimmage Saturday in El Paso, TX,
drew 40,163 (S.D. UNION TRIBUNE, 7/27)....Eagles Owner Jeff
Lurie, on rumors that he will relocate the team: "Pure
drivel. No, worse than that. ... We are working diligently
for a stadium, but the Eagles aren't going anywhere"
(PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 7/27)....In Toronto, George Gross
wrote that MLG Chair Steve Stavro "is being blamed for the
Leafs-Raptors arena fiasco when certain individuals in the
Raptors organization and the city hall hierarchy are the
real stumbling blocks. ... Stavro could easily prove it
isn't his fault, but he won't. ... Perhaps Stavro doesn't
care about his public image, but he must realize the image
of the Leafs is very much at stake" (TORONTO SUN, 7/27).
