LEAGUE NOTES

          MLS Commissioner Doug Logan says that he "feels
     certain" Seattle will have a franchise by 2002 (USA TODAY,
     7/24)....The newly formed, DC-based Women's Players
     Association's current members include the US Women's
     National Soccer Team and National Fastpitch Softball Elite
     Player Pool (WPA)....The NFL has given the Lions 24-48 hours
     to adjust the new $34.56M contract for Barry Sanders, after
     it reportedly violated a rule that "prevents a team from
     overloading a contract in the early or late years" (DETROIT
     FREE PRESS, 7/24)....Steve Donner, owner of the new National
     Lacrosse League's Rochester, NY team, said his group has
     talked with the Pistons, Heat, Lightning, Canadiens,
     Senators, Penguins, Leafs and NHL Rangers about owning NLL
     teams in their markets (SYRACUSE POST-STANDARD, 7/23).
