CAVALLI LOOKING FOR A PLACE TO STORE ALL HIS RAGE

ABL CEO Gary Cavalli and other league execs toured
UPenn's Palestra and Temple's Apollo arena to scout
potential sites for the relocated Rage franchise, according
to Mel Greenberg of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. Greenberg
writes that in walking through the Palestra, "the current
heat wave had the arena feeling more like a giant sauna."
UPenn's Tony Vecchione: "It's warm now, but you play in the
winter." Cavalli: "That's right, we play in the winter,
when you're supposed to play" (PHILA. INQUIRER, 7/18).
WOMEN'S NOTES: In Chicago, Joe Knowles, noting the WNBA
fined the Mercury's Nancy Lieberman-Cline $500 for grabbing
an opponent by the neck: "Oh, now that WNBA slogan finally
makes sense. It's not 'We got next.' It's 'We got necks'"
(CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 7/18). Noting the Sparks fired their
coach, Linda Sharp, the CHICAGO SUN-TIMES' Phil Rosenthal
adds, "The WNBA must be a real league. Eleven games, and
     they've already fired a coach" (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 7/18).
