CAVS DRAFT PICK DEREK ANDERSON INKS DEAL TO BE LIKE MIKE
Published July 11, 1997
NJ-based Worldwide Entertainment & Sports Corporation
announced today that its client, Cavs rookie Derek Anderson,
has signed a multiyear, multi-million dollar endorsement
deal with Nike to promote the "Brand Jordan" line of shoes
and apparel. Worldwide will retain 15% of the value of the
deal (Worldwide). USA TODAY's Michael Hiestand writes that
the building of a Jordan brand and signing of endorsers
"maximizes Jordan's NBA days and lays groundwork for his
post-NBA life." Nike spokesperson Erin Patton: "We're
looking for opportunities to expand Jordan product
offerings" (USA TODAY, 7/11).
