ESPN NEWS & NOTES: IN NAME ONLY, ESPN LOSES "CREATIVE" EDGE

          ESPN-owned Creative Sports, a TV sports marketing,
     syndication and production company, has changed its name to
     ESPN Regional Television.  ESPN Regional Television's on-air
     logo will appear as "ESPN+Plus" (ESPN).
          ESPN NOTES: USA TODAY's Michael Hiestand writes on the
     "perks" of ESPN's owning the X Games, which "constitute
     purely marketing-driven sports."  Hiestand: "The point to
     all this: Grabbing the elusive young viewers that
     advertisers covet" (USA TODAY, 6/18)....ESPN2 has added four
     regional finals to its coverage of the Little League World
     Series.  ESPN2 has also added coverage of the Little League
     All-Star game and hitting contest, both to take place on
     August 22 (ESPN2)...ESPN SportsZone will host the "Tom Mees
     Children's Trust Fund Online Auction" through Sunday. 
     Browsers can bid on autographed items, with proceeds going
     to a fund which benefits Mees' children (ESPN SportsZone).
     ...ESPN presents the NHL Awards Show live on Thursday night
     at 8:00pm ET from Toronto.  Ron McLean of CBC's "Hockey
     Night in Canada" will host (ESPN)....ESPN Int'l has acquired
     the live broadcast rights to 12 games of the South American
     Basketball Championships June 20-27 (ESPN).
