STEINBRENNER PUT HIS TROST IN NEW GENERAL COUNSEL AND VP

          The Yankees have hired Lonn Trost as General Counsel
     and VP, according to Dan Wasserman of the Newark STAR-
     LEDGER.  Trost is a partner in the NY law firm of Herrick,
     Feinstein and will replace David Sussman, who is leaving the
     team to become Exec VP of Business Affairs for MTV.  Trost,
     who has done legal work for the Yankees, Nets, Devils and
     the Baseball Hall of Fame, "is considered one of the leading
     authorities on sports cable television contracts and has
     negotiated several deals on behalf of local teams."  Trost
     takes over at a "crucial time in Yankee history," with its
     pending lawsuit against MLB stemming from the its deal with
     adidas, its upcoming local TV contract negotiations and
     pursuit of a new ballpark (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 6/17).
