IS IT ALLENTOWN? WA VOTERS HEAD TO THE POLLS ON STADIUM

WA voters vote today on whether to replace the Kingdome
and build a new football stadium for the Seahawks. The
SEATTLE TIMES reported that more than half of the voters
expected to cast their ballots have already voted, as 27 of
WA's 39 counties are voting on Referendum 48 entirely by
mail (SEATTLE TIMES, 6/16). In Boston, the vote garners
front-page coverage, as Tina Cassidy writes it "will be the
latest test of taxpayers' willingness to foot the bill for
pro sports stadiums" (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/17). In Toronto, Gary
Picknell writes that the outcome "could have a significant
impact on Toronto's bid to obtain an expansion franchise.
If the no side wins and the Seahawks do pick up and move to
either L.A. or Cleveland, it would move Toronto up the
ladder in future NFL expansion plans" (TORONTO SUN, 6/17).
