NHL TEAM MEDIA NEWS: MEDIA EXAMINES BLUES' NEW ROOKIE VOICE

Blues' Dir of Marketing/PR Jim Woodcock "is prepared to
take the heat" for signing Danny Kelly, 23, as the new radio
voice of the Blues, according to Tom Wheatley in the ST.
LOUIS POST-DISPATCH. Kelly, who "has never broadcast a game
on the air" and sent demo tapes to 70 hockey teams "with no
success," is the son of the late Blues "broadcast legend"
Dan Kelly. Woodcock: "I understand where there could be
some skepticism. ... His experience is essentially limited
to audition tapes that he made upstairs during games. ...
He's right for more reasons than his last name. But does
his last name help make it right? No question" (ST. LOUIS
POST-DISPATCH, 6/15). Also in St. Louis, Dan Caesar: "If he
excels, the decision will be applauded. If he struggles, it
will be blasted" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 6/15).
OILERS: NHL Oilers broadcast rights holder Molson
Breweries announced that Craig Broadcast Systems will carry
mid-week telecasts on A-Channel, the new local free TV
station starting up in September. The A-Channel is picking
up the games after CRFN did not renew its deal (Ray
     Turchansky, EDMONTON JOURNAL, 6/14).
