RAPTORS TAKING LOGO 7 TO COURT OVER SPONSORSHIP AGREEMENT

A dispute between the Raptors and IN-based Logo 7 "over
the clothing worn by Raptors staff during basketball games
... is headed for court," according to Robert MacLeod of the
Toronto GLOBE & MAIL. The Raptors have started legal
proceedings against Logo 7, "claiming the company has failed
to live up to its sponsorship arrangement with the club."
Logo 7 says it was the Raptors who "breached their
obligations" by allowing "other parties" to supply clothing
to various staff members at games, including ball boys, the
equipment manager, the dance team and the statisticians."
The two-year deal, signed in September '95, was valued at
$525,000 and in return, Logo 7 was "granted certain
promotional rights to use the Raptors' trademarks and logos
to market clothing within the SkyDome." The Raptors are
seeking "about" [U.S.] $332,278 that they say they are owed
by Logo 7 after the company stopped making payments
previously agreed to. But Logo 7 claims that because of
"numerous breaches" of the deal by the team, it doesn't own
the club any money. Officials from both sides would not
comment on the suit (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL, 6/11).
