OHIO SENATE GRANTS SALES TAX BREAK TO RACING TEAMS

IndyCar race driver Bobby Rahal "will save hundreds of
thousands of dollars in taxes" following an OH Senate
amendment exempting pro racing teams that have at least 20
employees from the sales tax for vehicles and parts
purchased by teams, according to Willard & Oplinger in the
AKRON BEACON JOURNAL. The tax break in the Senate version
of the state's $36.2B two-year budget was written so only
two racing teams in OH would qualify: Rahal's Team Rahal and
Tasman Motorsports. A Legislative Budget Office analysis
showed the exemption would reduce state tax revenue by
$400,000-500,000 annually on purchases of $8M-10M by the two
racing teams. State Sen. Doug White said that other states
exempt large racing teams from sales taxes, and Rahal was
considering moving his team out of the state if he did not
receive a similar break (AKRON BEACON JOURNAL, 5/30).
