PACKERS REVEAL RECORD INCOME FOR '96 AT SHAREHOLDERS MEETING

The Packers reported a record net income of $5.877M for
the fiscal year ending March 31, according to Bob McGinn of
the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. The "surge" in revenue from
$70.294M in '95 to $79.164M in '96 "was due largely to
increases" of $3.3M in souvenir sales, $2.4M in TV and radio
fees, and $1.7M in gate receipts. Expenses rose from $62.7M
to $71M, "due largely" to a $5.2M increase in player costs
and a $3M increase in administrative costs (MILWAUKEE
JOURNAL SENTINEL, 5/29). In a sidebar, McGinn reports that
the Packers "expect to make at least" $50M and "perhaps much
more" in the proposed new team stock offering. While being
discussed yesterday, a special meeting is scheduled for July
to vote on the proposal (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 5/29).
