NFL NEWS & NOTES: TAGLIABUE LAUDED IN REVIEW OF NFL MEETINGS

          NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue "has gradually earned
     the respect and trust" of NFL owners, especially among the
     so-called "new owners," according to Mike Freeman in the
     N.Y. TIMES, who wrote Tagliabue "has been trusted to handle
     difficult issues and will be trusted to navigate many
     potentially damaging obstacles to come."  One owner called
     Tagliabue "a level-headed consensus builder."  Freeman
     concluded that while Tagliabue "may not always immediately
     say what he is thinking to the news media or the fans ... He
     is definitely always a step ahead" (N.Y. TIMES, 5/25).
          L.A. STORY:  In Boston, Ron Borges wrote that during
     the NFL owners' meetings in San Diego, it "was decided" that
     "only" three teams "meet the criteria to move" to Cleveland:
     the Colts, Vikings and Patriots (BOSTON GLOBE, 5/25).
