'99 NBA ALL-STAR GAME A WEEKEND OF BROTHERLY LOVE

NBA Commissioner David Stern formally announced that
Philadelphia has been chosen to host the '99 NBA All-Star
Game at the CoreStates Center yesterday, according to Mike
Jensen of the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER. Stern said there was
"no real bid process" for the game, since Philadelphia had
put in a "strong bid" for the '98 game. The NBA will have
10,000 seats for the weekend, plus some luxury suites, with
the remainder of the seats being sold by the 76ers. Tom
Muldoon, head of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors
Bureau, said the NBA has already booked 5,000 hotel rooms,
with the possibility of the number increasing to 6,000
(PHILA. INQUIRER, 5/23). The Philadelphia Sports Congress
estimates the event will generate close to $35M in total
revenue for the city (Ed Moran, PHILA. DAILY NEWS, 5/23).
