BULLETS ARE OFF TO SEE THE WIZARD AS NEW LOGOS ARE UNVEILED

The Wizards, formerly known as the Bullets, unveiled
new logos and colors yesterday to go along with their name
change. The new Wizards logo, created by the NBA, contains
the colors blue, black and bronze. The team's primary logo
features a wizard leaping outstretched past the moon while
holding a "burst of magic" in his right hand and a spinning
basketball in his left hand. A "W" is emblazoned across the
Wizard's chest. The secondary logo features a modern font
that forms the letters "dc" (Wizards). The team made the
announcements at a Modell's Sports Goods store in Bethesda,
MD, and the Baltimore SUN's Jerry Bembry notes that after
the announcement was made, Wizards merchandise went on sale
immediately. The Wizards color scheme is similar to the
redesigned colors of the Capitals, also owned by Wizards
Owner Abe Pollin (Baltimore SUN, 5/16). The move also
signified "the demise of Hoops," the team mascot, who waved
goodbye at the unveiling (WASHINGTON POST, 5/16).
