          NBC's MARV ALBERT will receive the Basketball Hall of
     Fame's Curt Gowdy media award on May 31 at the Hall's annual
     Awards Dinner (Basketball Hall of Fame)....The WOMEN'S
     SPORTS FOUNDATION will hold its Summit '97 this Thursday
     through Sunday in Bloomingdale, IL (WSF)....ALBERTO TOMBA
     said he will star in a TV action series. He will begin
     shooting in April '98, after the Nagano Games.  Tomba will
     recite his lines in English, so the series can be marketed
     in the U.S. (USA TODAY, 5/14)....The group that won the
     feature documentary Oscar for "When We Were Kings," the
     fight film about MUHAMMAD ALI and GEORGE FOREMAN, is being
     sued by a group led by HENRY SCHWARTZ, which claims it owns
     the footage to the fight in Zaire (N.Y. POST, 5/14)....In
     Toronto, Frank Zicarelli reports that Raptors Exec VP ISIAH
     THOMAS' involvement in buying the team and discussions with
     the Maple Leafs on a joint arena has prevented Thomas from
     purchasing Sure Shot Int'l, which specializes in basketball-
     related products.  The company filed for bankruptcy
     yesterday (TORONTO SUN, 5/14).
