COMPUSA SQUEEZES OUT DEAL EXTENSION FOR CITRUS BOWL

The CompUSA Florida Citrus Bowl has reached a five-year
extension through 2002 with ABC-TV, the Big Ten and the SEC.
Agreements with the Big Ten and SEC are worth $39M. The '98
Citrus Bowl game will include an increase in payouts of
$6.7M combined, including hotel accommodations for the two
conferences to share. Increases will then take place each
year with the 2002 game topping out with a payout of $8.7M
combined (CompUSA). The increase from the $3M paid this
year to Northwestern and Tennessee "was made possible" by
ABC-TV (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 4/30). Rudy Martzke notes that
ABC "doubled" its rights fee to $4M a year and regains some
commercial spots given to sponsors (USA TODAY, 4/30).
