WAYNE'S WORLD GETS TO DOUBLE DIP IN STATE TAX BREAK TROUGH

"High-powered lobbying" by Wayne Huizenga "continued to
pay dividends," as the FL House and Senate approved "another
$60 million tax-break" for Pro Player Stadium, according to
Steve Bousquet of the MIAMI HERALD. The Senate Ways & Means
Committee endorsed the measure 19-8, while the House "passed
a key pro-Huizenga" amendment "overwhelmingly." The only
"obstacle" standing in the way of Huizenga and a second tax
break on the facility is Gov. Lawton Chiles, who has said
"repeatedly that he opposes giving one owner two tax breaks
for the same ballpark." One amendment was added to the
House bill that "sets aside $2 million of Huizenga sales-tax
money for college scholarships for achieving and needy
students in Dade and Broward" (MIAMI HERALD, 4/26).
