STADIUM NOTES

The Mariners have loaned another $10M to the team's
stadium project, which will keep construction on track
through May (USA TODAY, 4/24)....FL-based Automation Inc.
President Robert Black said his company, the maker of Clean
Shower, was willing to pay "at least twice" more than the
$6.2M over 10 years that Alltel paid for naming rights on
Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, but was "overlooked" as a
bidder (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 4/23)...In Chicago, local
officials and developers said high costs and public
opposition have "wrecked" plans to build a 70,000-seat, $60M
motor speedway at the DuPage Airport in West Chicago. The
Motorsports Alliance, which had proposed the track, said it
will look to acquire another site in the region to host a
similar track (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 4/24)....IN Gov. Frank
O'Bannon, on whether he would sign bills that would provide
money for a new NCAA headquarters and a new arena for the
Pacers as opposed to funding other public programs: "I'd
look at it when they came (to his desk), but I would not
look with favor at that at all" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS,
4/23). ...Former San Francisco Mayor Frank Jordan has told
the 49ers he can't endorse its new stadium-mall plan unless
some questions "are answered" regarding the city's financial
commitment and other details (S.F. CHRONICLE, 4/23).
