ONLINE NEWS & NOTES: STARWAVE LOOKING TO GET ITS AT BAT?

WA-based Starwave is reportedly "close" to announcing a
deal making it "the provider" of MLB's official site on the
World Wide Web, MLB@Bat, at www.majorleaguebaseball.com.
The deal would give Starwave "near-complete domination" of
the major league's sites on the web (BRANDWEEK, 4/21).
MLB'S FORMS GAME PLAN: MLB is working on a plan that
would allow live radio broadcasts on the Internet after "it
angered" fans by asking teams last week to stop broadcasting
games on the World Wide Web, according to Scott Newman of
BLOOMBERG BUSINESS NEWS. MLB's Michael Bernstine: "As soon
as we get all of the owners together, and get the contracts
modified, all major league games will be available on the
Internet. Until then, we've asked all teams to stop airing"
(BLOOMBERG BUSINESS NEWS/Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 4/22).
