HEARING SET FOR MAY 22 ON COLLEGE BOWL ALLIANCE

          The U.S. Senate plans to hold hearings next month on
     whether the College Bowl Alliance is "a monopoly that should
     be broken," according to Lee Davidson of the DESERET NEWS. 
     U.S. Sen. Bob Bennett (R-UT) is one of four senators who had
     "pushed" for the hearing and was "elated" that Sen. Mike
     DeWine (R-OH) agreed to hold a hearing before his Senate
     Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust.  Bennett has charged
     the Alliance with working to ensure "traditional powerhouses
     control the most lucrative bowls."  In a letter to Bennett,
     DeWine stated "It is clear that you have raised an important
     issue worth serious investigation" (DESERET NEWS, 4/16).
