HOME FREE: AVALANCHE SCRAP PPV FOR PLAYOFF TELECASTS

          Avalanche playoff games through the first two rounds
     will be broadcast on free TV, unlike last year when all home
     games for the first two rounds were available locally only
     via PPV, according to Adrian Dater of the DENVER POST.  The
     PPV telecasts "generated a predictable amount of backlash." 
     Home games will be broadcast on Fox Sports Rocky Mountain,
     with road games on UPN affiliate KTVD.  Ascent said it
     "doesn't expect to lose much, if any, money" by putting the
     games on free TV because of the additional ad revenue higher
     ratings should bring (DENVER POST, 4/9).
