NAMES IN THE NEWS

          The Wall Street Journal listed its annual "Executive
     Pay Survey" today. Among the execs noted were Disney's
     MICHAEL EISNER, who had a '96 base salary of $750,000;
     Nike's PHIL KNIGHT, with a base salary of $939,200; and
     Reebok's PAUL FIREMAN, $1M (WALL STREET JOURNAL, 4/10).
     ...The Jackie Robinson-look adapted by this season by the
     Reds' DEION SANDERS has caused the NL office to "investigate
     whether the uniform actually is uniform." Sanders is
     wearing his road uniform in a high-pantleg, cutoff-sleeve
     style to match the style worn by Robinson. But NL Senior VP
     & Secretary KATY FEENEY said yesterday that her office might
     "force" Sanders to wear his sleeves at the same length as
     his teammates (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 4/10)....Ex-NBA player
     CHRIS WASHBURN sued CBS and Warner Brothers Studios seeking
     $20M, claiming the TV movie "Never Give Up: The Jimmy V.
     Story" inaccurately portrayed him as a "drug addict" while
     he played at N.C. State (AP/N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 4/10).
