COUNTY COMMISSION GIVES BUCS ONE WEEK FOR LEASE CHANGES

The Bucs "have a week to accept changes demanded by a
local judge to their lease at the new football stadium," or
else Hillsborough County Administrator Dan Kleman said he
would recommend construction stop on the facility until the
State Supreme Court rules whether the city and county can
validate bonds to finish the project, according to Joe
Henderson of the TAMPA TRIBUNE. But Tampa Sports Authority
Vice Chair Sandy MacKinnon said if the project was stopped
now, it would add "at least" $15M to the final cost.
MacKinnon: "If we lose even a month or two of construction
time, we will lose the entire 1998 season" (TAMPA TRIBUNE,
4/10). The Commission is looking for the Bucs to "share
non-football revenue from the stadium equally with the Tampa
Sports Authority." Funding for the stadium construction
"runs out next week, and commissioners have been trying to
devise a way to finance stadium construction through June,
when they hope the state Supreme Court will decide the case"
(Wayne Washington, ST. PETERSBURG TIMES, 4/10).
