NIKE EARNINGS UP 33%; QUARTER REVENUE OVER $2B

          Nike earnings increased 77% in the latest quarter as
     worldwide sales of athletic footwear and apparel "surged,"
     according to a report in the N.Y. DAILY NEWS.  For the
     period ended February 28, the company earned $237.1M, or
     $.80/share, compared to $133.9M, or $.45/share, a year
     earlier.  Revenue increased 53% to $2.42B from $1.58B (N.Y.
     DAILY NEWS, 3/21).  The WALL STREET JOURNAL reports that
     Nike, "boosted by its garment business and strong overseas
     sales, turned in another blockbuster quarter."  Nike's stock
     fell $.75 to $67.50 in composite trading on the NYSE
     yesterday.  The JOURNAL added that sales were "paced by
     strong growth in Japan and the U.K." (WALL STREET JOURNAL,
     3/21).  CNBC's "Business Tonight" reported Nike's future
     orders are up 34%, to $4.3B (CNBC, 3/20).
