NIKE GOLF APPAREL "DOING TERRIFIC" IN HOUSTON GOLF MARKET

The "big business" of golf attire was examined by Jayne
Custred in the HOUSTON CHRONICLE. Custred noted that
according to an examination of the Houston golf market,
"hot" brands include Cutter & Buck, Tommy Hilfiger, Polo,
Ralph Lauren, Slazenger, Haley Sport, Bobby Jones, Ashworth
and Nike. Nike, "to no one's surprise" is "popular with the
younger set." Golfsmith Designer and Apparel Buyer Susan
Shade: "Nike is doing terrific. The clothes that Tiger
(Woods) is wearing, the Swoosh 18, aren't readily available.
... They're very hard to get. We get a new delivery every
month and we're usually sold out in two weeks." For women,
Haley Sport and Jean Bell "continue to be popular lines,"
and Bette & Court is "gaining momentum with the signing of
LPGA Tour player Michelle McGann," who will begin wearing
the apparel in May (HOUSTON CHRONICLE, 3/19).
