MEDIA NOTES

Maxim, a new magazine for men, will debut April 1. The
NY-based national periodical will be published by England-
based Dennis Productions (THE DAILY). Clare McHugh, Maxim's
Editor and former N.Y. Post "Page Six" staffer, claims the
new magazine is aimed at men who "like sports, and babes,
and beer" (N.Y. POST, 3/15).....The AFL New Jersey Red Dogs
will air five games on SportsChannel (Red Dogs)....CNN/SI
CEO Jim Walton, on viewership of the new channel: "We went
into this with our eyes wide open -- we built CNN/SI knowing
what the marketplace is like. ... We're not frustrated by
the marketplace right now. It's something that we knew that
we would be facing" (ELECTRONIC MEDIA, 3/17 issue).
...Following up on the Blue Jays' new TV deal which marked
the end of their relationship with Baton Broadcasting,
William Houston writes that team President Paul Beeston
"fell short of negotiating the television deal he wanted.
... Insiders say Beeston was surprised and dismayed by
Baton's apparent disinterest in the Jays, given the
network's long association with the club" (Toronto GLOBE &
MAIL, 3/18)....Canadiens F Mark Recchi will wear a wireless
mike during the Rangers game tomorrow night. The concept is
that "some of his heavy breathing and heavier dialogue in
the heat of action" will be used in a weekly 30-minute show
the NHL compiles for use on TV in the future. Also, a
camera and microphone will be sent into the Canadiens'
locker room between periods of the game, in hopes of getting
one or more of coach Mario Tremblay's motivational speeches
     on tape (Montreal GAZETTE, 3/18).
