Nike is seeking an agency partner to help develop an
"overall image" for the company at retail, according to Jeff
Jensen of AD AGE. Although the review does not affect the
"lead agency" status of Portland, OR-based Wieden & Kennedy,
"it's likely" the new agency will be granted project work
relating to Nike products, "possibly" apparel. Nike Dir of
Worldwide Advertising Geoffrey Frost says the selected
agency will work on ads, merchandising, and POP materials
"that will create a consistent retail image." Jensen adds
that the "search coincides with a full retail revamp," as
this spring, the new Air Jordan sneakers will be introduced
with a new Jordan apparel line. Jensen notes that Nike
"rivals" are also eyeing retail, as Fila USA "hopes" to
unveil a boutique concept in 150-200 stores by the end of
the year (AD AGE, 3/17 issue).
THE ENVELOPE, PLEASE: ADWEEK reports that Nike "is
likely" to announce an agency for its NikeTown account and
other agency assignments as early as this week. Agencies
"believed to be in talks with Nike" include S.F.-based
Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, NY-based BBDO and MN-based
Fallon McElligott. The Chicago-based Leap Partnership
currently handles the NikeTown account (ADWEEK, 3/17).
THE QUESTION, WILL IT SELL? Allen Iverson's agent David
Falk said that Reebok will debut a line of Iverson clothing
called "The Answer" in mid-'98 (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 3/18).
