A WI Senate committee voted 3-2 yesterday in favor of
legislation that limits the WI Stadium Board's ability to
lease equipment for Miller Park, according to Amy Rinard of
the MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL. But opponents of the bill
have "mounted a full-scale assault on the legislation and
were pressing senators hard to vote against it." After
gaining committee approval, the bill will be presented to
the 33-member Senate today, and if passed, could go before
the Assembly "as soon as Thursday." The bill sponsored by
Sen. Joe Wineke, was altered by the committee "to make it
clear the stadium board could enter into lease agreements."
But the committee specified that costs associated with
leasing "large items, such as a scoreboard, would have to be
included" in the board's $160M borrowing cap for
construction costs (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 3/18).
JAPAN JAUNT: Stadium board members will travel Saturday
to Japan to visit three retractable-roof facilities built by
Mitsubishi Int'l., which has bid to build the retractable
roof for Miller Park (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 3/18).
