SUPPORT FOR RENOVATION OF MILE HIGH STADIUM IN DENVER?

A proposal to renovate Mile High Stadium won a "show of
support" Wednesday, "but immediately stalled for a lack of
$180,000," according to Ann Imse of the ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS.
Five Denver City Council members voted to ask the mayor and
two independent stadium boards to include "re-use of Mile
High" in their discussions of a new football stadium for the
Broncos. The move was a "small but crucial first step"
toward winning city backing for architect Stuart Ohlson's
proposal to renovate Mile High. The stadium board said that
it must have "a serious price tag" for Ohlson's plan, but
Ohlson said he needed $180,000 to pay for the "detailed
construction drawings necessary for such an estimate."
Mayor Wellington Webb's office said they won't pay Ohlson,
but five council members did agree there has not been
"sufficient consideration of the renovation of Mile High"
     (ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS, 3/13).
