STADIUM NOTES

Steve Camp, Managing Dir of the Charlotte Auditorium-
Coliseum-Convention Center Authority, resigned yesterday to
become President & GM of Ticketmaster Golf, the new joint
venture between Ticketmaster and Golden Bear Inc. Camp said
that the resignation "had nothing to do" with proposals for
an uptown arena for the Hornets (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 3/13).
...In Milwaukee, WI Gov. Tommy Thompson said yesterday that
he would sign legislation prohibiting the WI stadium board
from using tax dollars to pay for leasing equipment for
Miller Park (MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 3/13)....In TX,
mayors of Fort Worth, Arlington, Houston and Dallas
"heartily endorsed" legislation by State Rep. Kim Brimer to
guide the public financing of sports facilities yesterday,
but Lt. Gov. Bob Bullock "lamented that the local bill gives
athletic teams even more leverage against local governments"
(FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 3/13). Rep. Brimer said the
committee will consider the testimony and the 19 proposed
amendments for "several weeks" before voting on it (HOUSTON
CHRONICLE, 3/13)....In Tampa, the Ice Palace is among 16
facilities that have submitted bids to get the NCAA Women's
Basketball Final Four in 2001 or 2002 (TAMPA TRIBUNE,
3/13)....Also in Tampa, testimony in the five-day hearing on
whether Hillsborough County can issue $204.5M in stadium
construction bonds wrapped up Wednesday afternoon, after
stadium opponent and former Tampa Mayor Bill Poe took the
stand. A decision is not expected before Tuesday, but if Poe
loses, he said he'll appeal to the state Supreme Court
(TAMPA TRIBUNE, 3/13)....Three Rivers Stadium will be
upgraded with a refurbished main gate that will provide fans
with a view of the city's skyline. The state's Stadium
Authority will pay for the $400,000 project, the
installation of a "glass curtain," which is expected to be
completed by the Pirates' home opener April 11 (PHILADELPHIA
     DAILY NEWS, 3/13).
