JACKIE ROBINSON FOUNDATION AND NIKE FORM COSBY SCHOLARSHIP

The Jackie Robinson Foundation and Nike have created
the Ennis Cosby Scholarship Fund to be administered by the
Foundation and awarded to minority undergraduate students
pursuing a career in the education of youth with learning
differences. Nike has donated $100,000 to establish the
Fund through the Jackie Robinson Foundation, and have asked
other companies and individuals to also contribute.
NEW ROBINSON AD: Nike will debut a national TV ad
honoring Robinson on March 31. The OR-based Wieden &
Kennedy spot, entitled "Thank You," is a documentary-styled
ad featuring portraits of past and present MLB players
thanking Robinson for his historical breakthrough.
Appearing in the spot: MLB's Tony Gwynn, Ken Griffey, Jr.,
Alex Rodriguez and Kenny Lofton; announcers Vin Scully and
Harry Caray; and former MLB stars Hank Aaron, Ernie Banks,
Willie Stargell and Reggie Jackson (Nike).
HERE, HERE: The Red Sox' Mo Vaughn, who wears No. 42 in
honor of Robinson, was a guest of the Robinson Foundation in
New York. Vaughn: "There ought to be a national holiday for
Jackie Robinson. Based on the kind of person he was, we
should celebrate the anniversary of his coming into baseball
     every year" (BOSTON GLOBE, 3/11).
