ADIDAS SIGNS CALIBER LOGISTICS TO HANDLE U.S. DISTRIBUTION

          OH-based Caliber Logistics has been retained by adidas
     America to assume responsibility for U.S. distribution of
     adidas footwear from adidas' Spartanburg, SC, Distribution
     Center.  The long-term agreement is effective April 28,
     1997.  Adidas will continue to maintain management and
     office staff at the facility (adidas).  In Portland, Jeff
     Manning notes, "The decision allows" adidas to "concentrate
     on sales and marketing and product design."  The move will
     also "shrink the company significantly" as 300-400 workers
     at the company's Spartanburg complex "will become Caliber
     employees."  Terms of the deal were not disclosed.  Adidas
     subcontracted out apparel distribution early last year to a
     unit of UPS (Portland OREGONIAN, 2/27).
