TURNER BROADCASTING A POSSIBLE SUITOR OF "THE PLAYERS"?

Players Inc., the marketing and licensing subsidiary of
the NFLPA, will debut a TV series this fall. The players
will own, develop and star in programming, produced by the
joint venture of Players Inc., Kevin Kiley and Kestrel
Communications. The initial work will be a one-hour show
called "The Players," which will debut in August and run for
22 weeks. On the program, players will offer insights as
they share experiences from the field of play. Gene Upshaw,
Chair of Players Inc., and Exec Dir of the NFLPA, said the
series "reflects an extension of our growth and development
in marketing our players and their brand" (Players Inc.).
NEWSDAY's Steve Zipay notes, "No word on network takers,
although Turner is reportedly interested" (NEWSDAY, 2/25).
Upshaw told THE DAILY Players Inc. is now in the process of
"introducing the show to the marketplace," and would like to
have a broadcast deal by August '97 (THE DAILY).
