SAY HEY! GIANTS TO HONOR MAYS AT NEW BALLPARK

The MLB Giants "unveiled design touches to Pacific Bell
Park yesterday and reported strong sales of seat licenses,"
according to Edward Epstein of the S.F. CHRONICLE. Design
refinements include a "huge" centerfield scoreboard, a
restaurant inside the stadium and a statue of Willie Mays at
the main gate. Despite the new scoreboard, the team is
asking ballpark advertisers to use their corporate logos or
ad slogans "from decades ago," in keeping with the team's
emphasis that the new park "mix high technology with the
nostalgic feeling of old-time ballparks." Around the
stadium will be 24 palm trees, "symbolic of Mays' number
with the Giants" and at the main entrance of the park will
be a statue of Mays. The team "expects" to sell three-
quarters of the 13,700 lifetime charter seat licenses it
will offer by "early this summer." Giants COO Larry Baer
said the licenses are being sold to current season-ticket
holders at the rate of about "50 a day." In early summer,
the remainder will go on sale (S.F. CHRONICLE, 2/25).
