LEAGUE NOTES

          In Baltimore, Ken Rosenthal an extensive column on the
     Roberto Alomar-John Hirschbeck incident under the header:
     "Alomar-Hirschbeck: No One To Say 'Enough!'"  Rosenthal:
     "There's no commissioner, no resolution, no end in sight"
     (Baltimore SUN, 2/19)....Greg Norman, Nick Faldo and Fred
     Couples will play in the Canadian Skins Game, the same
     weekend as the Canon Greater Hartford Open.  Canon USA
     Senior VP David Farr said he was "floored and dumbfounded"
     that the GHO and Skins Game again conflicted.  Farr: "I've
     got to call the commissioner and see what's going on.  It's
     very disappointing" (HARTFORD COURANT, 2/15).  PGA Tour
     Commissioner Tim Finchem was profiled in USA TODAY by Jerry
     Potter.  Potter: "In his 2 1/2 years as commissioner,
     Finchem has gained the respect of the golf community" (USA
     TODAY, 2/18).....CNN's Jim Huber interviewed SI's Jaime Diaz
     on Tiger Woods.  Huber, who noted Woods played in the
     Australian Masters after playing in Thailand, asked Diaz if
     there is "any kind of outside pressure" on Woods to play
     overseas.  Diaz: "Certainly IMG and Nike both would like to
     see him play overseas. ... He's certainly under some
     pressure from his sponsors" ("Pro Golf Weekly," CNN, 2/16).
