JACK MURPHY STADIUM TALKS FAIL TO PROGRESS IN SAN DIEGO

San Diego Mayor Susan Golding cut her meeting short
with former City Councilman Bruce Henderson on the Jack
Murphy Stadium expansion project, "but not before" the
meeting "had developed into near-bedlam," according to Braun
& Huard in the SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE. The mayor, who had
"been looking forward to a private talk with her chief
protagonist" on the issue, was forced to "cut the session
short" as a crowd of reporters grew, and the mayor
"pointedly reminding" Henderson that "he was elected by no
one, while she 'was elected by the people.'"
CRAZY DAYS INDEED: Chargers President Dean Spanos said
the team would not renegotiate its lease no matter what
agreement Golding might be able to reach to end Henderson's
legal challenge to the expansion. U.S. Rep. Bob Filner has
said he has agreed to talk to NFL Commissioner Paul
Tagliabue to see if the NFL will "pressure" the Chargers to
     negotiate (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 2/13).
