A total of 67 individuals from 36 groups representing
33 metropolitan areas have made plans to attend today's USOC
bid seminar in Philadelphia, according to Mike Spence in the
Colorado Springs GAZETTE TELEGRAPH. Many participants are
considering bids for the 2008 Summer Games, while others are
interested in hosting other Olympic events, like the Pan
American Games. USOC Exec Dir Richard Schultz: "In all of
our conversations with these cities, we've said, 'We want
you to know we think your chances for getting the Games in
2008 are very slim.'" This is primarily because the U.S.
will have "hosted four games in 22 years -- by far more than
any other country in the world" (Colorado Springs GAZETTE
TELEGRAPH, 2/11).
ITS A "GO" IN CINCY: Nick Vehr, who is leading
Cincinnati's 2008 Olympic bid, said that no matter what he
hears Wednesday, the Cincinnati group "will press on" (Tom
Groeschen, CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 2/10). MD Stadium Authority
Chair John Moag said a Baltimore bid is "in the exploratory
stage" of a possible 2008 bid (Baltimore SUN, 2/11).
