ORGANIZING COMMITTEES UNITE IN OLYMPIC LOGO PROMOTION

The SLOC and the USOC will showcase a proposed "logo
partnership" at the Atlanta Supershow, according to Jay
Baltezore of the SALT LAKE TRIBUNE. USOC Marketing Dir John
Krimsky said "it is time to move to the marketplace and test
an idea placing joint USOC and SLOC logos on some
merchandise. ... I will reserve judgment until we get
reaction at the Supershow. Will licensees be interested?"
The TRIBUNE's Baltezore: "If the idea of joint or separate
USOC and SLOC logo designs catches on, it will mark a new
era of marketing cooperation between the two committees."
The USOC's logo is fixed for the 2002 Games, with the five
Olympic rings and USA acronym. In the next few months, SLOC
will approve its logo, get the IOC's endorsement, and ready
it for product merchandise and major corporate sponsors,
which Baltezore notes "will open a major source of revenue
for SLOC to cover the anticipated $1 billion cost of hosting
the Games" (SALT LAKE TRIBUNE, 2/8).
