FRANCHISE NOTES

          In Hartford, Michael Arace notes Oilers Owner Peter
     Pocklington's plan to take the team public.  Pocklington
     said he turned down an offer from an American investor to
     buy 49% of the Oilers.  Arace notes that Pocklington may
     also get Canadian National Railways to buy the naming rights
     to Northlands Coliseum, and call it CN Station (HARTFORD
     COURANT, 2/9)....The FINANCIAL POST profiles Murray Frum's
     bid to buy the Blue Jays and has learned Frum's "biggest
     single investor" will be Calgary real estate tycoon Jack
     Singer, with a C$70M investment.  Singer's position would be
     represented by sons Alan, president of Hollywood's Centre
     Studios, and Steven, a director of the family's Calgary-
     based United Inc.  Frum has declined to comment on Singer's
     "possible involvement" (FINANCIAL POST, 2/8).
