TAGLIABUE HEARS ARGUMENTS IN KRAFT-PARCELLS DIVORCE REPORT

          NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue held a hearing
     yesterday regarding the contract status of Patriots coach
     Bill Parcells.  Tagliabue conducted the hearing via phone
     and it lasted about one hour (NFL).  In Boston, McDonough &
     Cafardo note that Tagliabue "indicated he would call the
     principals before he leaves for Hawaii this morning" (BOSTON
     GLOBE, 1/29).  In N.Y., Gerald Eskenazi notes that if
     Tagliabue rules in favor of the Patriots, the next issue
     would be what compensation the team would seek to let
     Parcells go.  Parcells' agent, Robert Fraley, said yesterday
     Parcells would be willing to buy his way out of New England. 
     Fraley: "Bill will have to pay a lot of money to be rid of
     the final year" (N.Y. TIMES, 1/29).  The DAILY NEWS' Gary
     Myers notes that Tagliabue may be asked to mediate on the
     issue of compensation as well (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 1/29).
