SUPER BOWL NEWS: HOWARD'S END? PATS FANS CAN ONLY WISH

There will be many more "happy returns" for Super Bowl
XXXI MVP Desmond Howard, "happy financial returns, as well,"
according to Fred Mitchell in the CHICAGO TRIBUNE. Howard's
agent, Leigh Steinberg, noted that "an offensive player who
has color and flair" has marketing potential. Steinberg:
"And Desmond comes prepackaged with the Heisman, so I am
hopeful this can lead to some exciting things." Mitchell
notes the phone "began ringing" for Howard before the Super
Bowl, and "more endorsement opportunities should pour in
Monday." Steinberg: "Some of it has already been planned.
He has the Disney World commercial and some other things
negotiated ahead of time" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 1/27).
Howard was a guest on NBC's "Today" and ABC's "Good Morning
     America" this morning (1/27).
NEWS & NOTES: CNN's "Moneyline" examined corporate
presence at the Super Bowl. Coca-Cola Public Relations
Manager Ben Deutsch: "There's a lot of pressure that goes
with doing these activities, especially during an event that
has the international focus that the Super Bowl does."
Sprint Corporate Sponsorship Manager Pam Kramer: "This is
the weekend when we really focus on those high end customers
and provide something that our competition can't"
("Moneyline," CNN, 1/24)....More than a million Miller Lite
cans commemorating the Packers' Super Bowl win will be
produced, starting this morning. The 16-oz cans will be at
retail outlets in Milwaukee and Green Bay on Tuesday
(MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL, 1/27)....The state of WI paid
