LEAGUE NOTES

          A CFL Players' Association survey, which studied 477
     contracts of players who appeared in at least one game in
     '96, revealed the average CFL salary was C$47,285 (TORONTO
     SUN, 1/22)....Expos President Claude Brochu, on the
     possibility of divisional realignment:  "Who says the Blue
     Jays shouldn't be in the NL East?  Really, all that's
     happened is that this is something that's going to be
     studied. ... it's very, very premature to start realigning
     clubs at this point in time" (Montreal GAZETTE, 1/22)....A
     bill to partially lift MLB's antitrust exemption was
     introduced in the Senate yesterday by Senate Judiciary Chair
     Orrin Hatch.  The bill was named in honor of the late Curt
     Flood (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 1/22)....Championship Auto
     Racing Teams (CART) registered a 5% increase in attendance at
     its 16 race events during the '96 season (CART).
