PHOTOGRAPHER NOT PLEASED AFTER ASKING BELLE TO SAY CHEESE

Attorney Fred Weisman has filed a lawsuit against the
White Sox' Albert Belle on behalf of Sports Illustrated
photographer Tony Tomsic, according to Will McDonough of the
BOSTON GLOBE. The complaint, filed in Cleveland's Court of
Common Pleas of Cuyahoga, alleges Belle "deliberately hit
Tomsic with a baseball last April 6 before an Indians game."
Weisman: "This sort of conduct has to stop, and we hope this
is the place where the message will go out to all of them."
The complaint seeks over $25,000 plus punitive and
compensatory damages and "reasonable" attorney fees (BOSTON
GLOBE, 12/18). In trying to get photos of Belle in April,
Tomsic was the target of Belle throwing baseballs into the
photographers dugout area. Tomsic: "It's something I just
agonized over a long time. I had a lot of divided emotions
on this thing. ... I believe that in the interest of all
concerned, a point needs to be made" (DETROIT NEWS, 12/18).
