          NHL Oilers Owner PETER POCKLINGTON has "abruptly"
     cancelled plans to buy the 47% of margarine producer Cambra
     Foods Ltd. he doesn't already own, after failing to secure
     financing for the C$30M acquisition (Toronto GLOBE & MAIL,
     12/18)....Reds Owner MARGE SCHOTT was released from a
     Cincinnati hospital Tuesday after being treated for a week
     for pneumonia ("SportsCenter," ESPN, 12/17)....TIGER WOODS,
     upon being named SI's "Sportsman of the Year," called
     winning his third U.S. amateur title the "highlight" of his
     year, "because pretty much anyone can win a tour event. 
     That happens all the time.  But no one's ever won three
     consecutive amateurs, and that's something I'm very proud
     of" ("CNN/SI," CNN, 12/17).  WOODS, on the death threats he
     has received: "I look at it this way: If there's any time to
     go, I'd much rather go out on a golf course" ("CNN/SI," CNN,
     12/17)....Bulls' F DENNIS RODMAN paid more than $800,000 for
     a 1907 gold coin designed for President Theodore Roosevelt
     ("CNN/SI," CNN, 12/17). ESPN's DAVID ALDRIDGE, on RODMAN: "I
     don't think Dennis is going to be a problem the rest of the
     year. ... I think, frankly, Dennis is worried about some
     endorsement money.  He's making $12 million off the court. 
     And that money is going to be a problem for him if he keeps
     acting up and doesn't get to play on the floor" ("NBA
     Today," ESPN, 12/17).
