IT AIN'T EASY BEING CHEESY: PACKERS, FANS FEATURED BY ESPN

The Packers and their fans were examined in an ESPN
"Outside the Lines" special called "Inside Titletown USA."
ESPN's Bob Ley noted, financially, the Packers posted a
record $5.5M profit last year and the franchise has $21M in
the bank "and access to credit beyond that." Green Bay
apparel sales trail only Dallas, and Packers home games have
been sold out since 1960. Ley: "The Packers more than any
team rely on NFL revenue sharing and the discipline of the
salary cap. Last year, 84% of Packer income was money
shared by the league, and three quarters of that was network
TV revenue." Ley adds that 1,900 people hold about 4,600
shares of Packers stock, valued at $25 a share, "the
identical value as the day it was first sold in 1950."
Packers stockholder Jim Queoff: "I've said this many times,
besides my wife and my children, it's the most important
possession I own" ("Outside the Lines," ESPN, 12/17).
